The Final 3!
The jet lag has finally worn off and taste buds have reacclimated themselves to dining hall food. The Winslow girls are settling back into their routines, officially back at SMUS for two weeks since Spring Break.
With only three months of school left, it would be too easy to simply stop caring about any responsibilities whatsoever and focus on having fun, enjoying the near end of the school year, especially for those graduating. But as the SMUSdents have heard from countless speakers—from Mr. Anderson to Winslow’s own Ms. Webber—these final three months should be considered the last effortful push before the school’s end. Awaiting in the last 91 days of school are responsibilities too significant to rid from our minds. May will bring AP exams, while June carries finals. It is essential for the girls to stay focused—determined, not just in getting through these final months, but in succeeding every step of the way.
Last weekend was packed with boarding activities to welcome the community back after the long break. On Friday, VOICES, SMUS’s spoken word club, hosted an Open Mic Night, including performances from Kezia, Bella P, Sam, and Giang from Acting 11/12, as well as spoken word pieces by Narjes and I. Several members of Barnacle house, including Rashid, Max, and Ben also presented their works. On Saturday, the house enjoyed the annual trip to Oak Bay Rec Centre for ice skating, featuring Poppy’s first time ice skating, as well as captivating tricks by pro-skaters, Lisa and Lucy.
On Sunday, the boarding community hosted the second to last house games, which included California Kickball, Ultimate Frisbee, and Family Feud. The girls performed well under the pressure from other houses, maintaining the top spot in house points at 424, with Timmis at 350 and Symons at 349, fighting for second place. Following house games, Winslow proudly supported their brother house as they hosted the community dinner, decking out in their best floral garb to fit the spring theme. A regular chapel by Rev. Fletcher signified the end of the boarder’s weekend.
