Flockey February

This week marks the completion of the first month of school in 2019. Winslow has certainly been full of energy these last few weeks and hopefully it keeps up as the term continues. Midterms came for our senior students, which lessened the giddiness a little bit as everyone made sure to get their studying in. All the midterm exams have now been completed to the best of everyone’s abilities, consequently returning the noise level and liveliness in the house back up to its normal high.

February 3rd brought another exciting round of house games, as well as the 53rd annual Super Bowl. While the football game started in the midst of house games, two of the Winslow girls found a way to stream it on their phone, supporting their favorite football team, while also supporting their Winslow sisters. Later that night, the Winslow/Barnacle common room became packed with football fans from all over boarding, desperate to catch the game’s conclusion.

In house games this year, the girl’s houses have all been in stiff competition for the highest amount of points, so it was no surprise when the Winslow girls were roaring and ready to go for an afternoon of floor hockey and competitive pictionary. The ever-powerful Winslow girls came out of the games without a single floor hockey loss and a swift pictionary battle. When the house points were released, boarding was buzzing with the news: Winlow had the highest points out of all the houses, boy’s and girl’s.

After house games, Timmis held an enjoyable house dinner, with movie night as their theme. The boarding community was invited to throw on their favorite movie character’s outfit and the Winslow girls sure delivered. The best costume by far, was Jessie as Malorie from the hit Netflix original, Bird Box. The look was complete with a blue blindfold—which she wore from the boarding house all the way to the Sun Centre—and a box with bird noises sounding from it. Her outfit coincided perfectly with the activity that Timmis held to decide which house got to eat dinner first.

Wrapping up the boarders’ weekend was a Symons house chapel, in which the Symons girls shared their thoughts on support within their house, as well as in the boarding community. The SMUS boarders walked back to the boarding houses as snow fell, dusting the campus in a thin blanket of white.
