Turkey Day (American Version) & Black Friday

An official countdown until Christmas Break has begun, with American Thanksgiving wrapping up the end of last week. The American boarders in the house, Bella and I, joined by the rest of the Americans within the SMUS boarding community, enjoyed SMUS’s final American Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday. Mrs. Zapantis throws this event each year, this one being the last, as she is retiring later this year. Mr. Cordle opened the evening with a heart-warming vocal performance of America’s National Anthem, followed by everyone sharing the things that they’re thankful for. Then, the bountiful feast begun. As is usual American tradition, a large turkey was carved, alongside the scrumptious sides of mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and stuffing.

On Friday, the SMUS Middle School threw a dance, which was enjoyed by the Grade 8’s in Winslow. The girls took the time to dress up in their best outfits and dance the night away. This past Friday was also Black Friday, which called for the huge annual sales of many stores. The SMUS boarders found themselves stretched across stores downtown, in Uptown shopping mall, Mayfair shopping centre, and some even on the mainland in Vancouver! Everything from high-fashion clothing to Google Home Mini’s were purchased at incredibly low prices.

Over the weekend, the annual SMUS Alumni Basketball Game took place in the single gym. Sadly, the SMUS Alumni repeatedly dunked on the home team, made up of boarding students who volunteered to play, securing the win. The crowd consisted of Winslow and Barnacle alike, all present to support the SMUS home basketball team.
