A Week to Remember (Nov 6th - 13th)

We are all just returning from a nice, relaxing long weekend. Over the long weekend there was a surfing trip to Tofino and another trip to California that two Winslow girls went on. During the trip Kaori and Jimena met Mickey Mouse, Disney princesses, and even a couple minions! They visited three different amusement parks and enjoyed lots of sunny weather.

The November long weekend was because, on Saturday, it was Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day takes place on November 11th to remember the soldiers who fought and died during World War and all others. On the 11th minute of the 11th hour, of the 11th month and day, there is a moment of silence to think about and thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice. At SMUS we hold a ceremony on the Thursday before the break to show our respect. This event is open to parents and many special guests, along with all students. During the ceremony they name all the SMUS alumni who fought and died in World War I and II. The drama class also performed a short skit and the band played through the entire event. It was a beautiful ceremony with an important meaning.
